This avalanche likley occured naturally around Feb 1. It was in heavily wind loaded terrain. 1-2 feet deep and ran over 1000 feet vertical. This is an example of the type of terrain where you could trigger a large avalanche on facets or depth hoar. Photo: B. VandenBos

This avalanche was triggered by a snowmobiler about 1/4 of the way up a wind-loaded southeast facing slope at 8,000 feet. It broke up to 18" deep, 150' wide and ran approx 300' slope distance. Photo: B. Rasmussen
One of our observers saw another skier trigger this small slab avalanche on a north-facing slope around 9,000', 2-3' deep and about 35' wide. Given how shallow it is, it might be a repeat avalanche, running on depth hoar near the ground. Photo: B. Fredlund
