This avalanche was triggered on Saturday (2/20). It is 3-6 feet deep on a north facing slope at 10,200' on Scotch Bonnet outside Cooke City. No one was caught. The debris was hard wind slabs and the weak layer was surface hoar, seen as a stripe in the snowpit wall. Photo: GNFAC
On Friday (2/19) a snowmobiler was sidehilling across a north-facing slope when it avalanched on a buried surface hoar layer. This slide occured south of West Yellowstone on the Island Park side of Black Bear. Photo: B. Chouinard

This slide was triggered by a snowmobiler in the Lionhead area near West Yellowstone. It likely failed on buried surface hoar. Fortunately nobody was caught. Photo T. Spencer
