Airplane Bowl Avalanche 2

Airplane Bowl Avalanche 2

Natural avalanche in Airplane Bowl south of Sacajawaea Peak. This slide occured on 3/28 after 10" of dense snow fell with moderate to strong westerly winds. It looks like a smaller slide broke above the cliff band (likely a wind slab triggered by a cornice), which then broke into deeper layers below the cliffs. The lower crown is proabably 4-6 feet deep.
