This snowpit was dug on an east facing, 35 degree slope at 9,000 feet. The break occured 20 cm down on lower density stellars crystals that fell two days ago. I do not anticipate this weakness to last more than a few days. Photo: GNFAC

This column of snow would not fracture in my stability tests. Located on a SE facing slope at 7,700 feet on Bacon Rind, it was moist and cohesive. This is the first, real sign of spring I've seen. Photo: GNFAC
