This northeast facing slope at 9500 feet is located outside Cooke City near Round Lake. It was likely skier triggered a few hours prior to the picture. We did a quick beacon search of the debris--luckily it was clear. Photo: GNFAC

This avalanche was from a cornice breaking at the ridgetop. It's a northeast facing slope on Sheep Mountain outside Cooke City. The fact that it did not propagate far is a good sign, but cornices can pose serious problems as they grow and break, often triggering slides. Photo GNFAC
